Start where you Are
I saw this tree as I walked The Marginal Way Ogunquit, ME. It was a cold, kind of dreary day in May. There were not too many people on the path and I found few who were willing to share a smile as we passed. I was feeling joy for my niece, who had just graduated from nursing school, and uncertainty for myself as I too was starting on a new path in life.
The sight of this tree made me pause and wonder who had cared enough about it to prop it up. How long had it been that way? How interesting its branches were as the top ones mirrored the trunk.
I walked on, smiled at a few more folks and had a quiet lunch by the sea, alone. Not a very eventful day and this picture made it to a social media post then, like most things, it was just a memory.
As I was looking through my pics today, I saw it. I remembered the events and feelings of the day. I had the same thoughts about who supported the tree and where we were then and added where we are now. Over the last few years, much has changed and much has stayed the same. The thing is, each moment is what we make of it. What we believe is based on the things that we have perceived throughout life and those experiences shape how we view life now.
Today it's New Years Eve 2021. This tree reminds me that we do not walk through life alone. We have people who support us so we can grow and thrive. We can see life through eyes of beauty and grace. We can allow transformation to happen when we sit with the feelings of life and allow them to be what they are. The stories of the past are past, the concerns for the future are in the future, try not to grasp at them. Start where you are, right here, right now. Feel what you feel, right now. This present moment. Happy New Now!!!
